Dear Friend of the IRC,
Throughout the year, I have written to update you on the progress of our partnership to rescue and rebuild lives torn apart by violence and oppression. But this message is perhaps the most important. Its significance and sincerity can be summarized in two words: thank you.
In addition to expressing these heartfelt words of gratitude, I also would like to convey the appreciation of those we serve around the world. Your commitment to human dignity and freedom helps the International Rescue Committee bring critical care and comfort to millions of refugees across the globe. We at IRC are privileged to witness the benefits of this work every day:
* In the cheers resounding in a Darfur community as lifesaving water flows from a well constructed by IRC's water and sanitation experts
* In the bright eyes of an Afghan girl discovering the treasure of a new school book provided through IRC's education initiative
* In the warm handshake of an Iraqi man seeking refuge in Jordan who received essential support from IRC's Emergency Response Team
* In the triumphant voices of women in Congo singing together at an IRC counseling session for survivors of sexual violence
* In the joyful embrace of two brothers from Sierra Leone at a New York airport after more than eight years of separation — a reunion made possible by IRC's domestic resettlement work
On behalf of IRC's many beneficiaries, whom your concern and generosity has helped to bring from harm to home, I extend the deepest gratitude to you for being an agent of hope.
I wish you all the best for a peaceful Thanksgiving holiday.
Sincerely,
George Rupp
